Members

The Airport Committee consists of seven members, which includes an aldermanic representative, two hangar owners or airport business owners, the Airport Manager and three residents. Each member is appointed by the Mayor subject to the approval of the Common Council for a three year term. The Mayor appoints the Chairperson of the Airport Committee, subject to the approval of the Common Council, for a term concurrent with the Mayor's term of office.

Responsibilities

The Committee recommends regulations, airport development and land uses, and fees and/or charges for the use of the airport to the Common Council and shall administer the same as finally adopted by the Council. The Committee also recommends an Airport Manager whose employment and compensation shall be reviewed and approved by the Council. The Committee prepares and adopt standard leases and agreements for the various types of airport activities and land uses authorized in this section and adopt regulations and establish fees or charges for the use of airport property during goose hunting season for goose hunting. In the event the Airport Committee determines that the goose population has reached a point on the airport property where it has become a safety hazard, the Airport Committee has the authority to allow hunting and the discharge of firearms under Chapter 308, § 308-1 of this Municipal Code at times other than hunting season as in its discretion is necessary to promote the safe use of the airport.
